Before being approached to paint the mural in Spark, I can admittedly say I never thought I would have taken on another project of this size. Thank goodness I accepted, because the result and experience of painting here was unlike anything I’ve ever done before. From the kitchen staff, to its founders and cafe-goers, the love and support over the 9 days I worked was the fuel that kept this project alive.

Spark Community Cafe is a pay-what-you-can, farm-to-table, non-profit eatery located in Downtown Versailles, Kentucky. In their first year alone, Spark has fed over 1,500 meals to food insecure and contributed $13,000 back into local farming. This mural bridges farming, the cafe itself, and the community that it’s both founded on and raises up.

Special Thanks to Debbie Gilliam for assisting me everyday, Tristan Ferrel and Kyle Fannin for providing me the opportunity, and to the Spark Kitchen/Volunteer staff for feeding me.
